The Incandescent Studio has a new webpage! If you're applying to be a mentor for 2022, here's a link to the site.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE THIS SUMMER

Why mentor?

What do you wish you knew when you began your writing journey? What do you think all beginning writers should know? As a mentor for the Incandescent Studio, you'll be able to share your stories and guide up to 3 talented young writers as they begin to chart their own journeys. You'll also be able to connect and collaborate within the vibrant Incandescent mentor community.

The Incandescent Studio now provides mentor training and an updated curriculum template kit with guides to creating your own syllabi, warm-ups, and finding recommended readings.

A change from last year: this year's mentors are welcome but no longer required to lead live workshops.

Eligibility & Application Guidelines

Applications open April 16 and close May 7, 11:59 PM ET.

Mentors must be at least 16 years of age and willing to mentor the general age range of mentees, which is around 11 to 14 years of age. Older mentors are paired with older mentees; younger mentors are paired with younger mentees.

We are committed to seeking a diverse group of passionate mentors from all corners of the international writing world. Factors such as timezone and country will not negatively impact your application.

While we consider writing accolades (ex. Scholastic Art & Writing, YoungArts, etc.) we are far more interested in understanding your general writing experience. Previous teaching and editing experience are also factors we heavily consider.

Above all, we want to hear your personal approach to the art of writing and how to pass it on.
