Application Guidelines

The student application period for the 2020 Incandescent Summer Studio has closed. Student applications for the 2021 Incandescent Summer Studio program will open in early summer, 2021.

ELIGIBILITY:
Middle school students and rising high school freshmen (grades 5 - 8, including rising high school freshmen) are eligible to apply for the program. In rare cases, we may admit an exceptionally talented and mature 5th grader.
*It is free to apply to the Incandescent Summer Studio.
APPLICATION COMPONENTS

Writing sample - Submit up to 10 pages of any form of poetry or prose (short story, fiction, nonfiction, etc.). Format your work as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf and start a new piece on a different page. You may submit only poetry, only prose, or a mixture of both, as long as the total page count doesn't exceed 10 pages. Pages should be numbered.

Personal statement - In your personal statement, tell us about yourself as both a writer and a student. You may discuss your previous writing experience or even your favorite writers. What do you hope to work on with your mentor? Let us know about yourself and your goals. How would this program in particular help you grow? If you're new to writing a personal statement, don't let that discourage you from applying! Think of it simply as an opportunity for us to get to know you better. Have fun with it!
