  • Writing sample - Submit up to 10 pages of any form of poetry or prose (short story, fiction, nonfiction, etc.). Format your work as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf and start a new piece on a different page. You may submit only poetry, only prose, or a mixture of both, as long as the total page count doesn't exceed 10 pages. Pages should be numbered.

    • Poetry: 11-12 point font, single-spaced

    • Prose: 11-12 point font, double-spaced

  • Personal statement - In your personal statement, tell us about yourself as both a writer and a student. You may discuss your previous writing experience or even your favorite writers. What do you hope to work on with your mentor? Let us know about yourself and your goals. How would this program in particular help you grow? If you're new to writing a personal statement, don't let that discourage you from applying! Think of it simply as an opportunity for us to get to know you better. Have fun with it!

    • Format: 1-2 pages, double-spaced. File type may be .doc, .docx, or .pdf.
