"In 'Atlantis, Reimagined,' I collaged newspaper articles on discrimination against Asian Americans, focusing on Japanese internment camps, along with photos of my grandparents who lived in these internment camps. Additionally, I incorporated images from my own childhood. I then printed these collages on handmade paper to construct city-like monuments. When I flooded the tank with milk-water, the ink seeped through the handmade paper, blurring the images together. Through this work, I examine lost heritage and history.

Newspaper images are from the National Archives, The New York Times, and the University of Washington. I confirmed with public domain and fair use policies that I could incorporate these newspapers into my work." —Miye Sugino
